2016 Aril Red Wine Cuvee
ARIL is a family-owned winery founded in 2008 by Harmon and Joanne Brown. They were inspired to produce a small amount of premium, hand-crafted wines based on their Pritchard Hill Estate Vineyard in Napa Valley which included a 130-year-old pomegranate tree amongst the vines. In fact, “aril” is the seed of the pomegranate fruit. Renowned winemaker and viticulturist Ehren Jordan (Failla/Turley), took over as winemaker/vineyard consultant in 2014 from previous winemaker Nate Weis (Silver Oak) and viticulturist Mike Wolf (Beckstoffer). We have maintained a simple philosophy of procuring optimal grapes and respecting them in the winery. Distinct sites and exceptional farming are followed by a minimalist approach in the winery showcasing place, balance, and elegance.

VINEYARD NOTES
Considered a benchmark for Rhône varieties, Kick Ranch is a geologically diverse sustainably farmed hillside site (certified) on the western side of the northern flank of Spring Mountain which separates Sonoma and Napa Counties. An amazing mix of volcanic, rocky, clay loam vineyard soils contribute a rich minerality. Kick Ranch’s vine rows are laid out for perfect sun exposure with a 20 mile vista down to the Petaluma Wind Gap, providing cool nights and foggy mornings preserving acidity, balance and aromatics.
VINTAGE
2016 will be Kick Ranch's fifth year of producing an outstanding vintage. The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early, saw ideal weather conditions throughout and wrapped up as the valley's first significant fall rainstorm arrived on October 14. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness. Wines from the 2016 vintage were quietly developing in cellars throughout the valley and vintners are pinching themselves and smiling for the gift it appears Mother Nature has given them: a fifth consecutive vintage of stellar quality Sonoma County wines.
